Got an anchor tattoo today! My best friend and I got matching ones on opposite feet, a design that we have been considering for about two years.
Anchors were some of the first and most popular tattoos amongst the navy who wore the symbol for pride and honor. Essentially, they are tools sailors use to keep ships steady and still either at dock or out at sea. They keep ships grounded and tethered to the earth so they don’t sail off the path that they set sail to be on.
Like an anchor, my best friend Kateri has kept me grounded for as long as I’ve known her. She’s kept me steady and safe and been there when I needed her the most, and just when some simple company was wanted. She’s been through my best, she’s been through my worst, but through it all she’s been by my side no matter what. She has grown with me and become one of the most admirable and honorable people I’ve ever met, and I couldn’t be happier to share this special mark with her and have a little piece of her with me at all times. Without her, I would have surely sailed away, far away, from the path that I am now on and the path that I have been venturing on all through high school and in the years before. My tattoo be with me forever; through my best and through my worst on my left foot no matter what. I know, like my tattoo, Kateri will be with me forever. She’s is my best friend, my person, and most of all my anchor. I will love her though her best, through her worst, and I will be by her side forever no matter what.
